New Delhi, January 20, 2026:
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has delivered a firm and unusually blunt message to Poland during high-level bilateral talks in New Delhi, stressing zero tolerance for terrorism, opposing selective global targeting of India, and flagging concerns over Poland’s growing engagement with Pakistan.
The remarks came during Jaishankar’s meeting with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, marking a significant moment in India-Poland diplomatic relations.
Zero Tolerance for Terrorism: India’s Clear Stand
Jaishankar strongly urged Poland not to “fuel terrorist infrastructure” in India’s neighbourhood, a reference widely seen as linked to Pakistan-backed cross-border terrorism. He underlined that any partnership or diplomatic engagement must be guided by a clear stance against terrorism, without ambiguity or double standards.
India’s concerns were triggered in part by Poland-Pakistan engagements in recent months, including references to Kashmir in joint statements, which New Delhi considers interference in its internal matters. Jaishankar made it clear that such actions undermine trust and regional stability.

‘Selective Targeting Is Unfair’: Jaishankar on Tariffs and Ukraine
During the talks, Jaishankar also raised India’s objections to what he described as “unfair and unjustified selective targeting” of India over its energy purchases from Russia amid the Ukraine conflict.
He pointed out that India has been singled out with tariffs and criticism despite acting in line with its national interests and global market realities. Jaishankar reiterated that India will not compromise its strategic autonomy and expects partners like Poland to understand its position objectively.
Tense Media Moment After Talks
The diplomatic tension became visible during a media interaction when Polish Deputy PM Sikorski avoided questions on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism. The moment went viral, highlighting the sensitivity of the issue and reinforcing India’s tough messaging on terror-related concerns.
What Poland Said
While the Polish side acknowledged discussions on terrorism and global security, it refrained from making explicit commitments in public statements. However, Sikorski reportedly agreed that “selective targeting” in global affairs creates imbalance and should be avoided.
Why This Matters
The S Jaishankar–Poland talks are significant as they signal India’s growing willingness to openly call out partners on issues of terrorism, foreign policy consistency, and economic fairness. The episode also reflects New Delhi’s broader diplomatic approach of clarity and firmness amid a rapidly changing global order.
As India deepens ties with Europe, the message is clear: strategic partnerships must be built on mutual respect, non-interference, and zero tolerance for terrorism.
